“Peace I leave with you, my peace I give unto you: not as the world giveth, give I unto you. Let not your heart be troubled, neither let it be afraid.”
John 14:27 · New Testament
When You Need a Scripture for Peace
What Scripture Offers When You Cannot Find Stillness
The peace scripture speaks of is not circumstantial. It is not dependent on the situation getting better, the noise going away, or the problem getting solved. It is a specific gift — described as peace that passes understanding — which means it exists in conditions that don’t logically allow for it.
These passages come from across scripture — Old and New Testament, Book of Mormon, Doctrine and Covenants, and the words of General Authorities who have spoken directly into restlessness and the search for stillness.
Philippians 4:7
New Testament
"And the peace of God, which passeth all understanding, shall keep your hearts and minds through Christ Jesus."
The peace that cannot be explained — which is precisely what makes it a miracle. It does not make sense given the circumstances. That is the point.
Doctrine and Covenants 19:23
Doctrine & Covenants
"Learn of me, and listen to my words; walk in the meekness of my Spirit, and you shall have peace in me."
Peace here is tied to a posture — learning, listening, walking. Not a passive gift but the natural result of a particular way of moving through life.
Mosiah 4:3
Book of Mormon
"And it came to pass that after they had spoken these words the Spirit of the Lord came upon them, and they were filled with joy, having received a remission of their sins, and having peace of conscience."
Peace of conscience — a specific kind that only comes from something being made right between you and God. For the restlessness that is actually guilt wearing a different face.
Isaiah 26:3
Old Testament
"Thou wilt keep him in perfect peace, whose mind is stayed on thee: because he trusteth in thee."
The mechanism is precise: where the mind stays determines the peace that follows. This passage is less about circumstances and more about attention.
Elder Richard G. Scott
General Conference
"You can have peace amid uncertainty when you center your life in Jesus Christ."
From a General Conference address on faith and peace. The distinction between certainty and peace is key — you don't need answers to have stillness.
FYS Premium
Talk to Someone Who Found Peace Inside Impossible Circumstances
FYS Premium lets you have a real conversation with Paul, Nephi, Joseph Smith, Emma Smith, Moroni, or Brigham Young about the passage you found and the restlessness you are carrying. Ask Paul how he maintained peace in a Roman prison. Ask Joseph Smith what it felt like to receive revelation in the middle of chaos. Ask Nephi how he stayed grounded when his brothers wanted him dead.
These are real people who carried real things. Ask them how they found their way through.
