When Exhaustion Goes Deeper Than the Body
What Scripture Offers When You're Running Out
The need for strength isn't always physical. Sometimes it's the strength to keep believing, to keep showing up, to keep going when the results haven't come and the road is longer than you expected. That's where scripture reaches — not just into tired muscles, but into a tired soul.
These passages come from across the breadth of scripture — Old and New Testament, Book of Mormon, Doctrine & Covenants, and the voices of General Authorities who have spoken to seasons of depletion.
Isaiah 40:31
Old Testament
"But they that wait upon the Lord shall renew their strength; they shall mount up with wings as eagles; they shall run, and not be weary; and they shall walk, and not faint."
One of the most beloved passages on strength in all of scripture — and notice the progression. Not just running, but walking. Sometimes strength looks like simply not stopping.
Alma 26:12
Book of Mormon
"Yea, I know that I am nothing; as to my strength I am weak; therefore I will not boast of myself, but I will boast of my God, for in his strength I can do all things."
Ammon's declaration — one of the most powerful testimonies of borrowed strength in the Book of Mormon. The admission of weakness is where the real strength begins.
Doctrine & Covenants 84:88
Doctrine & Covenants
"And whoso receiveth you, there I will be also, for I will go before your face. I will be on your right hand and on your left, and my Spirit shall be in your hearts, and mine angels round about you, to bear you up."
A promise of surrounding support — not just internal strength, but the presence of God before you, beside you, and underneath you. For the moments when you can't carry it yourself.
2 Corinthians 12:9
New Testament
"And he said unto me, My grace is sufficient for thee: for my strength is made perfect in weakness."
Paul's thorn. The passage where God refuses to remove the difficulty — and instead promises that the weakness itself becomes the place where divine strength enters.
Elder Dieter F. Uchtdorf
General Conference
"God knows of our difficulties. He wants to help. But He also wants us to grow. And this means He will not always shield us from the struggles that are part of this mortal experience."
From a General Conference address on endurance. The framing shifts what struggle means — not punishment, but purposeful preparation.
What Kind of Strength Do You Need?
Strength Looks Different Depending on the Season
Sometimes you need strength to endure. Sometimes to forgive. Sometimes to keep going when faith feels thin, or to do the hard thing you've been putting off. The passage that helps most depends on what kind of strength the moment is asking for.
The quiz asks a few honest questions and matches you to the scripture that fits — not just the situation, but where you are inside it.

Talk to Someone Who Kept Going When It Was Hard
FYS Premium lets you have a real conversation with Paul, Nephi, Moroni, Joseph Smith, Emma Smith, or Brigham Young about the passage you found and the season you're in. Ask Moroni how he kept writing when everyone around him was gone. Ask Joseph Smith what it took to keep going through the Missouri years. Ask Paul how he found strength in chains.
These are people who found real strength in impossible seasons. They left their words — and now you can ask them how.
